House Theatre Opens Off-Stage Operations Facility

The House Theatre of Chicago is opening a new headquarters on the site of a former commercial bakery at 4020 N. Rockwell. The rented facility overlooking the Chicago River was developed by entrepreneur Scott Waltenbur, and will also house an Anytime Fitness franchise.

The House gains a 1400 square foot rehearsal room with sprung floor, skylights, and rigging for acrobatics and illusions. A costume studio on-site will allow for fittings during rehearsals and other wardrobe maintenance, and a new scene shop will be available for rent when it’s not being used for House productions—a desperately needed resource in the Chicago theater community. The new facility will also include office space for twenty staff and interns, a conference room, and 1600 square feet of storage.

The company will hold an open house tomorrow, Saturday, May 12 between 5 and 9 p.m. free and open to the public. RSVPs are requested but not required. Visit thehousetheatre.com for more information and to RSVP.
