Dance for Life Chicago sets record attendance

Dance for Life, which mobilizes Chicago’s dance community by raising funds through dance, welcomed more than 2,700 guests, an all-time high attendance, at the 27th annual Dance for Life Chicago performance August 18 at the Auditorium Theatre. Approximately 500 guests attended a pre-performance gala reception at the Hilton. From a combination of ticket sales, sponsorships, a live auction and contributions, Dance for Life Chicago raised more than $275,000 to support The Dancers’ Fund, which provides assistance to members of the dance community coping with critical health issues, and the AIDS Foundation of Chicago.

Paula Vogel to speak at Goodman Theatre’s “Igniting Imagination: The Art of Great Teaching”

Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel will appear as a guest speaker at “Igniting Imagination: The Art of Great Teaching” education and engagement luncheon on September 20th. Now in its 4th year, the Goodman Theatre’s annual Education and Engagement luncheon offers attendees an overview of the theater’s programming, which is provided year-round and free of charge for youth, schools and community members. The programming takes place in the Goodman’s Alice Rapoport Center for Education and Engagement.

iO premieres LGBTQIA+ showcase 

Local comedians Debra Duncan and Rachel Smith will bring DREAMBOAT, an all LGBTQIA+ focused showcase, to iO through September. The show begins with a set by an iO House team, followed by a solo act from a queer performer (music, stand up, sketch, drag, etc.) and culminates with an improv set from the all LGBTQIA+ cast of DREAMBOAT. Created to highlight not just the queer talent at iO Chicago but the community as a whole,  DREAMBOAT runs Thursdays through September 27th.
