The New Colony has announced an added production for its ninth season, the world premiere of Loy Webb’s THE LIGHT, directed by Toma Langston, playing January 5 – February 4, 2018, at The Den Theatre.
THE LIGHT will feature Jeffery Owen Freelon Jr. and Tiffany Oglesby, and the production team includes John Wilson (scenic design), Cassandra Kendall (lighting design), Regina Victor (dramaturg), Noelle Simone (assistant director) and Daryl Ritchie (stage manager).
“On the heels of their engagement, Rashad and Genesis must come to terms with the devastating effects of rape culture, putting the future of their relationship at risk,” said the press release. “THE LIGHT is a rollercoaster real-time 70-minute journey of romance, humor and heart-wrenching despair that seeks to discover whether the power of radical love can be the healing glow amidst the world’s darkness.”
The LIGHT is 30th world premiere presented by The New Colony since 2008 and will be the final production under founding co-artistic directors Andrew Hobgood and Evan Linder, who are stepping down at the end of this season.
