The House Theatre of Chicago has announced that Erik Schroeder as the company’s new Managing Director, a role currently filled on an interim basis by board member Brian Bauer.

Schroeder previously served as director of marketing for Lookingglass for 7 years before leaving to complete the Leadership U: One-on-One fellowship (funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and administered by Theatre Communications Group) where he has been working at the Manhattan Theatre Club under Executive Producer Barry Grove and General Manager Florie Seery. While in Chicago he also taught as an adjunct instructor at Columbia College Chicago’s Business and Entrepreneurship Department and served on the board of directors of The Hypocrites.

“I have been a huge fan of The House since seeing The Terrible Tragedy of Peter Pan in 2002,” said Schroeder. “Fifteen years later I remain in awe of their imagination, tenacity, vitality and ambition, and I am thrilled to join their ranks. I look forward to contributing my energy to the remarkable work being done by The House staff, board and artists to build new audiences, engage a larger community, and lay the foundation for the next chapter of the adventure unfolding on stage — and behind the scenes — at this exciting company.”

Artistic Director Nathan Allen remarked, “It is such a pleasure to welcome Erik Schroeder to The House. As a friend, and long time admirer of his leadership in the community I am looking forward to partnering with him as we continue growing. Erik’s spirit, experience, and hustle make him a great fit for our ambitious organization.”
