CHEERS LIVE ON STAGE Posts Early Closing

Producers of CHEERS LIVE ON STAGE, currently playing Broadway In Chicago’s Broadway Playhouse, announced tonight that the show will be concluding its run early. Patrons who have tickets for performances after October 9 will receive a refund by contacting their point of purchase. The production, which received mixed reviews, including a positive notice from the Tribune, billed itself as a faithful recreation of the television show. Producers say plans for a 2017-2018 tour are still in the works.

It’s been a wild fall for commercial theater in Chicago—the early closing follows close on the heels of the crash and burn of HELLDRIVERS OF DAYTONA, which played only one performance at the Royal George before closing after unanimous pans. A planned production of CHICK FLICK THE MUSICAL, also slated for the Royal George, was recently cancelled. Over at the Apollo, a small but mighty production of THRONES! THE MUSICAL PARODY is going strong, and THE BARDY BUNCH opened recently to strong reviews at the Mercury, save a harsh hit from the Tribune.
