The Den Theatre has announced that it will present a revival of Joel Drake Johnson’s drama “Four Places,” directed by ensemble member Lia Mortensen.

The play unfolds in real-time as a brother and sister Ellen and Warren have gotten word from their elderly parents’ caretaker that they may be a danger to each other. At their weekly lunch date with their mother, they confront a life of losses and disappointments. “I was drawn to this play because it examines the universality of family: love, secrets, trust, lies – while also navigating how alcoholism threads through the tapestry of this family,” said Mortensen. “It is at once hysterical, tragic, and ultimately moving. We recognize ourselves in these imperfect humans.”

“Four Places” premiered at Victory Gardens in 2008 with Meg Thalken in the role of Ellen. Thalken will return to the play this time as mother Peggy. Amy Montgomery will play Ellen, with Bruch Reed as Warren and Rebekah Ward as Barb.

The production team includes Jeffrey D. Kmiec (scenic design), Josh Prisching (technical director) and Tina M. Jach (production stage manager).

“Four Places” runs May 24 – June 30 at The Den’s 1331 N. Milwaukee Avenue venue. More info at thedentheatre.com.
