Effective immediately DirectorsLabChicago’s co-founder Elizabeth Margolius has stepped down as Artistic Director, a position she’s held since founding the company in 2005.
Along with the board, Margolius has named DLC staffer and long-time local theater director Wm. Bullion as her replacement. Margolius will remain a part of the Lab’s steering committee and Board of Directors for at least a year, lending her support and expertise as the group restructures for the future.
Margolius, a noted Chicago director of theater and opera, founded DLC in 2005 with fellow director Karin Shook after the two met while attending the Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab in New York.
“It has been an incredible 12 years,” says Margolius, “but I must now focus my efforts on other creative endeavors in both Chicago and New York, and let the new leadership grow the Lab from here.”
Wm. Bullion
Bullion and the steering committee are hard at work to ensure a smooth transition into this next chapter. Already in the works are DLC’s annual week-long Lab and several workshops, seminars and master classes throughout the year.
“The mission of DirectorsLabChicago is near and dear to my heart,” says Bullion. “I’m looking forward to providing quality experiences and resources for all levels of the Chicago directing community, and to continuing the work of building DLC into a high-profile, sustainable organization.”
