Following on the heels of its hit inaugural production of CHURCHILL, which played two Chicago engagements, had an Off-Broadway run, and continues to play around the country, SoloChicago Theatre has announced its sophomore offering. The Chicago premiere of THE UNFORTUNATES, by Austrailian playwright Aoise Stratford and featuring Chicago actress Gail Rastorfer, will take place at Theater Wit June 17 – July 10, with Artistic Director Kurt Johns at the helm.

Based on a true story, THE UNFORTUNATES follows Mary-Jane Kelly, a down on her luck “unfortunate” in Victorian London, as she encounters a stranger alone in her local tavern who may or may not be Jack the Ripper looking for his next victim. Rastorfer will play a baker’s dozen characters in the one-act solo performance.

SoloChicago bills itself as the only Equity-affiliated theater in the country dedicated to works of solo performance.

Tickets for THE UNFORTUNATES (currently $38) are available at theaterwit.org.
