Theatre at the Center in Munster, Indiana has announced the cast and production staff for their spring production “Dames at Sea,” the long-running Off-Broadway hit that put Bernadette Peters into the lime-lite in 1969, and finally made it to Broadway in 2015.
It’s “a delightful musical escape into a bygone era,” according to director Linda Fortunato. “It’s entertainment for the whole family.” With a book and lyrics by George Haimsohn and Robin Miller and music by Jim Wise, “Dames at Sea” begins with Utah native Ruby arriving in New York City with a Broadway dream. She’s picked to dance in the chorus off a new Broadway show where she meets Dick, a sailor, who also has ambitions as a songwriter. On opening night, they learn that their theater is being demolished and make plans to perform the show on a naval battleship.
Kelly Felthous will play Ruby, with Todd Aulwurm as Dick, Colette Todd as Mona Kent, Sierra Schnack as Joan, Sam Shankman as Lucky, and Steven Strafford as Hennesey and The Captain.
The creative team includes Scenic Designer Jessie Howe, Lighting Designer Guy Rhodes, Sound Designer Barry Funderburg, Costume Designer Brenda Winstead, Wig Designer Kevin Barthel
Previews begin May 2 with Opening Night on May 5 and continued run through June 2. For more information, visit www.TheatreAtTheCenter.com.
