Award includes a cash prize and the opportunity to develop prize-winning script with American Blues Theater

American Blues Theater—Chicago’s second oldest Equity Ensemble—announced the submission period for the 2017 National Blue Ink Playwriting Award. Playwrights are invited to submit one manuscript for consideration. The winner will have the opportunity to further develop their script with American Blues. The submission period runs July 1 – August 31, 2016. Submissions are accepted via email at [email protected].

The annual Blue Ink Playwriting Award was created in 2010 to support new work. Since inception, American Blues has named 6 Award winners, 4 runners-up, 20 finalists, and 46 semi-finalists. American Blues awarded more than $4,000 in cash prizes for 2016. Nathan Alan Davis was the winner of the 2016 award. Davis’ play, THE WIND AND THE BREEZE, was selected from a pool 449 submissions. As part of the award, Davis received a $1,000 cash prize and a staged reading directed by Lisa Portes.

Submissions for the 2017 Blue Ink Playwriting Award open July 1, 2016. All submissions must be received by American Blues Theater by August 31, 2016 at 11:59pm. Playwrights may only submit one (1) manuscript each year for consideration.
