House Theatre Cancels “Ellen Bond”

The House Theatre of Chicago has announced that it will not be producing “Ellen Bond, Union Spy” in the spring of 2018 as previously announced. The Civil War — conceived by Jess McLeod and written by Jenny Lamb, with Tanji Harper & Blu Rhythm Collective providing the music, lyrics and movement — has been in development with the company since early 2016.

Artistic Director and founder Nathan Allen said: “Our Company Members, Staff, and Board were very proud to commission this project and work with the creative team on its development over the last two years.” Allen continued, “We hold deep respect for the creative team behind Ellen Bond, and believe the story of this incredible hero should be heard.”

The House’s 2017-18 season will now conclude with “Hatfield & McCoy,” running January 19 through March 11, 2018. The Magic Parlour will continue its open run at the Palmer House, and the annual “Nutcracker” has begun performances for the holidays.
