Samuel G. Roberson Jr. Dies

Samuel G. Roberson Jr. — Chicago-based director, actor, teaching artist, and the artistic director of Congo Square Theatre — died Sunday night.

He recently directed THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS for Porchlight Music Theater and Assitant Directed KING OF THE YEES at the Goodman. As an actor, he appeared on the stages of Congo Square, Northlight, Steppenwolf, Victory Gardens, and the Goodman.

Roberson founded a literacy-based leadership program with Congo Square that provides a safe environment for adolescent African American men, and started a non-profit organization called the “Make Me A Match Project,” dedicated to saving the lives of patients in need of a bone marrow transplant.

Roberson was a graduate of Howard University.
