Adventure Stage Chicago, a program of the Northwestern Settlement, suffered severe water damage when a sprinkler system malfunctioned on November 15.
The flooding caused severe damage to the Vittum Theater stage and lighting system and has left ASC’s offices and dressing rooms, located in Evanston Hall, unusable.
Additionally, Adventure Stage Chicago’s current production “La Ofrenda,” written by José Casas and directed by Ana Velazquez, was forced to close ahead of schedule. The production was slated to run through November 26.
“It has been an incredibly emotional journey taking inventory of the damage done by the flooding made all the more so by the fact that now almost 2,000 students will not have the chance to see this powerful show,” comments Producing Artistic Director Tom Arvetis.
A gut rehab totaling at least $200,000 is planned for the historic building with a fundraising campaign in place. More information can be found on Northwestern Settlement’s Facebook Page.
