Steep Theatre is bringing Tony Award winner and Steep Associate Playwright Simon Stephens to Chicago July 21st – 25th coinciding with the U.S premiere of his play WASTWATER.  This marks the second time Stephens has visited Steep and his first visit since becoming an associate playwright in 2013.

The five-day event will include an evening with Stephens reading his piece Song from Far Away. This will be the first reading in the U.S., a piece which was originally written with songwriter Mark Eitzel of American Music Club for recent Tony Award recipient Ivo van Hove at Toneelgroep Amsterdam. The reading will be followed by a discussion of Stephens work and career and a reception with the playwright and Steep ensemble members. In addition, Stephens will attend two performances of WASTWATER  and participate in a talk-back after each performance.

Stephens has seen his work produced numerous times in Chicago including Steep Theatre’s MotortownHarper Regan, and Pornography, and the Griffin Theatre’s productions of On the Shore of the Wide WorldPort, and Punk Rock. Stephens is a recipient of the 2015 Tony Award for his adaptation of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.
