Under The Gun Theater has announced its second annual TOURNAMENT OF SHOWS. Seven comedy shows face off in a single-elimination style bracket tournament. This year’s lineup features parodies of movies, musicals, telethons and rap battles:
– Never Seen It (submitted by Jeremy Sender)
– Sticking to the Script (submitted by Jennifer Kaesheimer)
– Super 8 (submitted by Katie Heath)
– Date Night (submitted by Jeremy Adler)
– Telethon (submitted by Adam Schwartz)
– First Time or Fan? (submitted by Alex Raynor)
– Rhyme Vs Reason (submitted by Zheryk Badugu)
Under The Gun says there were 54 submissions this year, and over 17,000 online votes were cast in random head to head match-ups to select the seven shows. Each week’s audience will see 30-minute versions of two different shows in the competition and select the show that they prefer. That show moves on to the next round of the competition, and the winning show (and perhaps some of the runners up) will get a full run at the theater later this summer or fall. Last year’s winner, PORN MINUS PORN has enjoyed several runs at Under The Gun Theater, and will come back Saturdays May 14 – June 25.
Under The Gun is a relatively new venue on the comedy circuit, but has quickly risen to be a solid competitor for the business of the other major players in town. Located just of Clark in the heart of the Wrigleyville bustle, UTG features a full bar inside the playing space and affordable drink prices.
TOURNAMENT OF SHOWS performances will take place on Fridays at 7:30pm, May 13th through June 17th. Tickets are $18. More information can be found at undertheguntheater.com.
