Windy City Opens New Space with “Every Brilliant Thing”

Windy City Playhouse has announced Duncan Macmillan’s “Every Brilliant Thing” will open the brand-new loft space designed by Scott Davis at the Playhouse’s South Loop location (2229 S. Michigan Ave.).

On seeing the 2014 Barrow Street production (which was filmed for an HBO Documentary), Artistic Director Amy Rubenstein comments, “Within 10 minutes of watching ‘Every Brilliant Thing,’ I had fallen in love. Everyone in the room was part of this beautiful whirlwind of a quest to define and seek out brilliance, or more bluntly, a reason to live. After watching the engagement of these audience members, we immediately set on a quest of our own, to gain the rights. That was not easy, but after two years of nagging and pushing, we did it! It tickles me to think about sharing this experience with our audiences.”

Rebecca Spence

Directed by Jessica Fisch, the one-person play will feature Rebecca Spence with Marian Van Noppen understudying.

The production team to-date includes Scott Davis (scenic design), Helen Lattyak (production stage manager), Eric Backus (sound designer), and Caitlin McCarthy (properties designer).

“Every Brilliant Thing” follows the protagonist as she guides the audience through a story of finding the things that make life worth living in the face of her mother’s depression.

“Every Brilliant Thing” beings performances September 18. For more information visit, WindyCityPlayhouse.com.
