Mercury Theater Chicago has set the dates and schedule for the grand opening of the Venus Cabaret Theater, a new performance space immediately adjoining in the old Cullen’s Bar & Grill.
Designed to offer a unique dining experience and intimate theatrical productions, Venus will kick off its 2018 season this March with Stephen Sondheim’s COMPANY followed in June by MONTY PYTHON’S SPAMALOT.
The cabaret theater will operate under an equity contract, and auditions for both productions will take place January 14th, 15th and 16th.
COMPANY ( March 15 to May 20, 2018 )
Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Book by George Furth
It’s a party and you’re invited! Everybody loves Bobby; he is fun, smart and the best third-wheel. Let’s get together to celebrate Bobby’s 35th Birthday. We’re inviting all his good and crazy people, his married friends. We’ll even invite some of his girlfriends (I wish he’d just get married already). Shhh it’s a surprise.
Mercury Theater Chicago’s production will be presented on the new Venus Cabaret Stage. You will be welcomed as part of Bobby’s 35th birthday party as we celebrate this new theater with Stephen Sondheim’s bittersweet COMPANY. This show is complimented with party appetizers and birthday cake for all.
MONTY PYTHON’S SPAMALOT ( June 14 to August 5, 2018 )
Book and Lyrics by Eric Idle, Music by John Du Prez
The Tony Award Winning Best Musical, SPAMALOT! Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, SPAMALOT retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, and features ridiculous men in tight pants, not to mention cows, killer rabbits, and French people. The Broadway production won three Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and was followed by two successful West End runs.
Mercury Theater Chicago’s production will be presented on the new Venus Cabaret Stage, accompanied by medieval treats of meats and ale.
