The Plagiarists have announced their cast and production team for the sequel to their 2013 adaptation of Alfred Jarry’s UBU ROI, entitled UBU II: ELECTRIC BOOG-UBU, OR FREE UBU. This new chapter sees the horrible Ubus visit a place even more depraved and corrupt than the 19th-century Poland they were chased out of in the first play: America. The production runs August 31 through September 30 at the Berger Park Coach House and will be directed by company member Nick Freed.
Plagiarists Artistic Director and UBU II Playwright Gregory Peters says “‘Ubu Enchaîné’ was Jarry bringing the Ubus to his home country, and then using them to ridicule and tear down everything that he thought was hypocritical, evil, or just dumb. We wanted to do another Ubu, and this seemed the obvious choice, and then all of a sudden it seemed terribly relevant. So we brought them to our country.”
The cast includes Clara Byczkowski, Allison Grischow, Jyreika J. Evelyn Guest, Raymond Jacquet, Derik Marcussen, Stephen McClure, Gregory Peters, Jessica Saxvik, Julia Stemper, and Nick Strauss.
The production team includes Assistant Director: Paul Kastner, Stage Manager: Christina Casano, Production Managers: James Snyder and Jack Dugan Carpenter, Costume Designer: Emma Cullimore, Sound Designer: Brendan Monte, Set/Props Designer: Noël Dominique Straley, and Lighting Designer: John Jacobsen.
